Img98.jpg When talking about Deer hair, its the body hair of a Mule Deer that we are refering to.  Mule Deer is a very versatile hair used for many flies.  The hair is hollow from the follicle to just before the tip where the color changes.  This makes it particularly nice for clipped body flies because it can be spun very tightly.    Another advantage of Deer hair is the large variety of colors that are available.  Matching the Hatch is always easier when there is a nice  variety of colors to choose from.  This coarse hair is 1½" - 2½" in length.
